The ingredients needed to make Dal Tadka:
Make ready 1 cup Toor dal
Get 1 medium-size onion
Prepare 1 large tomato
Make ready 1 tbsp garlic chopped
Prepare 1 tbsp ginger chopped
Get 2 green chili
Take 1 tsp jeera
Prepare 1/2tsp+1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Prepare 1 tsp Kashmiri chili powder
Take 1 tbsp kasoori methi
Get leaves few coriander
Prepare 1 tbsp oil
Take 1 tbsp ghee
Prepare as per taste salt
Prepare For seasoning :
Take 1 tbsp ghee
Take 1 tsp jeera
Make ready 1 tbsp garlic chopped
Get 2 dry red chili
Take 1/4 tsp hing/asafoetida
Steps to make Dal Tadka:
Wash and soak toor dal for 30 mins. Add 2 cups water, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles until dal is cooked well.
In a pan heat oil and ghee. Add in jeera and let it splutter. Add in chopped ginger, garlic and saute until raw smell goes away.
Add in finely choopped onion, split green chillies and saute until onions are translucent. Add chopped tomato and saute until tomatoes are soft and mushy.
Add in 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, chili powder, kasuri methi, half of chopped coriander leaves and salt to taste. Saute well. Add in cooked dal and water to adjust the consistency. Let it come to boil. Simmer for 3 mins and switch off the flame.
For seasoning heat ghee in a pan. Add in jeera and let it splutter. Add chopped garlic and saute until aromatic. Add dry red chili, hing and saute.
Add the seasoning to the dal along with remaining chopped coriander leaves. Mix well, cover and let it stand for 5 minutes before serving.
Dal tadka is ready to be served with steamed rice, jeera rice or roti.
