The ingredients needed to make Dal Tadka:
  1. Make ready 1 cup Toor dal
  2. Get 1 medium-size onion
  3. Prepare 1 large tomato
  4. Make ready 1 tbsp garlic chopped
  5. Prepare 1 tbsp ginger chopped
  6. Get 2 green chili
  7. Take 1 tsp jeera
  8. Prepare 1/2tsp+1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  9. Prepare 1 tsp Kashmiri chili powder
  10. Take 1 tbsp kasoori methi
  11. Get leaves few coriander
  12. Prepare 1 tbsp oil
  13. Take 1 tbsp ghee
  14. Prepare as per taste salt
  15. Prepare For seasoning :
  16. Take 1 tbsp ghee
  17. Take 1 tsp jeera
  18. Make ready 1 tbsp garlic chopped
  19. Get 2 dry red chili
  20. Take 1/4 tsp hing/asafoetida
Steps to make Dal Tadka:
  1. Wash and soak toor dal for 30 mins. Add 2 cups water, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles until dal is cooked well.
  2. In a pan heat oil and ghee. Add in jeera and let it splutter. Add in chopped ginger, garlic and saute until raw smell goes away.
  3. Add in finely choopped onion, split green chillies and saute until onions are translucent. Add chopped tomato and saute until tomatoes are soft and mushy.
  4. Add in 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, chili powder, kasuri methi, half of chopped coriander leaves and salt to taste. Saute well. Add in cooked dal and water to adjust the consistency. Let it come to boil. Simmer for 3 mins and switch off the flame.
  5. For seasoning heat ghee in a pan. Add in jeera and let it splutter. Add chopped garlic and saute until aromatic. Add dry red chili, hing and saute.
  6. Add the seasoning to the dal along with remaining chopped coriander leaves. Mix well, cover and let it stand for 5 minutes before serving.
  7. Dal tadka is ready to be served with steamed rice, jeera rice or roti.
